Our mentoring!

The Mother Daughter Entertainment mentoring program is designed to help students in college navigate their path into the film industry. Film has taken a huge hit in the last 6 years due to COVID and the union strikes; this means that the new generation of filmmakers are completely in the dark with the way this “new” industry works. We are bringing industry professionals to these students to give them the ability to ask questions and learn in a “current” way. The students who enter the program are also paired with a mentor who they can reach out to when struggling with a professional challenges.

How does it work?

Students are given the opportunity to participate in a “speed networking” style event with in-person mentors, to practice the art of pitching, networking, or just asking questions.
After the event, the participants are set up for one-on-one mentorship with one of our mentors.
The overall program will last 12 weeks, with mentees having weekly zooms with their mentors, and separate weekly “meetups” with our CEO, Isabella Blake Thomas, and other guest speakers. This is where they will be “taught”. (More on slide 5)
Once the 12 weeks are complete, the mentees will be logged in our MDE team list to be contacted to work on professional film and TV projects.

How does this benefit the students?

The common thread we are noticing at MDE is that current film graduates do not have an accurate picture of what the film industry looks like today. This is not anyone in particular’s fault, just a result of the fact the industry has been flipped on its head and everyone is trying to figure it out.

Previous mentees have expressed how much they learned just by being on set observing our team work. Because of this, we wanted to start a formal program, enabling students to gain knowledge and experience.

How do the zoom classes work?

Meeting once a week for 90 minutes, students will learn under speakers such us our CEO Isabella Blake Thomas, and other producers, directors, actors, and department heads to get an in depth view of the industry.
Students will have the ability to ask questions throughout the zoom in order to expand their knowledge.
The class will mostly be 60 minutes, however we allow 30 minutes extra as a buffer split between the beginning and end of class for students to join, introduce themselves, and ask any follow up questions.

How do the mentor meetings work?

Students can meet with their mentors as many times as they would like (so long as their mentor “okay’s” it) during the run of the mentorship.
We recommend meeting a minimum of once a week to maintain a strong relationship.
We also encourage the mentor/mentee relationship to continue after the program has ended.
The length of the meeting and what is discussed is up to the mentor and mentee provided it remains focused on professional outcomes.
